history
(Please scroll down
for complete information)
The club was
started in the early 1990s. The original name was
the Horse & Carriage Society of Monmouth
County. It was changed when the club incorporated
May 1992.
Our logo is from a print by James Walls called
"The Gig Horse". A framed copy of the print hangs
in the club’s President's house while they hold
office.
Our first clinic
was at Clear Fields Farm in Jackson with Audrey
Bostwick.
In 1994, we served
as the host club for the American Driving Society's
Weekend of Pleasure Drivers.
The event was held at Hamilton Farms,
Gladstone, NJ. We had 60+ stalls rented
and over 100 people registered.
There was a
"Welcome" Wine & Cheese party on Friday
night, Continental
breakfast both mornings, boxed lunches
& guest
speakers during lunch breaks (Paul Martin, Eric
Sanders) and
a Country BBQ Saturday evening.
The club has held
pleasure drives at Lebanon, Gladstone, Valley Forge,
Fair Hills, Battleground Country Club
(Englishtown), Assunpink, Bellplains
Park, Renault Winery,
Princeton Nursery, Rockefeller
State Park,
Carranza Memorial, and others.
Our members have
been active in starting and maintaining significant
events including the annual “Turkey Trot”
that benefits the Horse Park of New Jersey and the
Garden State CDE.
Many of the
founding members are still active in our club today.
